The base area should be 100mm bigger all round than your log cabin measured to the outside faces of the cabin walls.

A raft foundation is a very simple foundation technique where a raft of concrete is laid underneath your entire log cabin.
In this example we could make our base at exactly 2 80m wide and the log cabin will fit on it exactly.
So for instance the base actually needed for a 3 00m wide log cabin is.
Notice the size of the timber we are using this has been laminated together to form the frame.
Use 100 x 25mm timber to form the frame or shuttering for your base.
Length of log 3000mm or 3 00m.

Constructing a timber base not everyone wants the permanency of a concrete slab to use as a base for your log cabin.
This is the start of a timber frame base for a log cabin.
Log crossover x2 2800mm or 2 80m.
Mark out the area and excavate to approximately 150 200mm depth.
Go over the whole area three times to ensure it is compacted.
Another method that still provides a firm level and stable environment is to produce a timber base much the same as that employed under a deck.
Build your shuttering so that the top of the concrete base will be approximately 3 5 cm above ground level.
Measure and mark out the correct size on the ground.
This will add the strength of the log cabin base step 1.
